Dear friends in Christ,
“For I know well the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare, not for woe! Plans to give you a future full of hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
It is bittersweet that I must announce that the Jesuits will be completing their mission in Hollywood and will be returning Blessed Sacrament parish to the care of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles at the end of June 2024. It will remain a parish but one led by the Archdiocese rather than the Society of Jesus.
This is a complicated time for the whole parish. I too feel the difficulty, the sadness, and uncertainty of the moment. I have come to love the people and the possibilities here in Hollywood and am immensely proud of what we are accomplishing together. The Holy Spirit has moved powerfully through generations of people and pastors in the past 110 years and we are just the latest chapter of this story of blessing!
Even though I am jolted by the change, I am overwhelmingly encouraged by the goodness of God working through the people who gather each weekend. The Spirit deeply infuses the initiatives of radical hospitality, excellence in worship, and care for Hollywood which mark us as a community. All of you are, and have always been, the heart of the parish; the Jesuits have only played the part of servants to what God is doing and will continue to do through you in Hollywood. I am excited to see what this parish will continue to build on this sure foundation of community over the next six months.
Yes, Blessed Sacrament will be somewhat different when cared for by clergy of the Archdiocese. The best way you can honor the work and legacy of the Jesuits is to give our next leader your full support in prayer, service and trust.
So, we will continue to gather, worship and follow Christ together through the life giving seasons of Lent and Easter, and into early summer. And we will look for ways to celebrate the decades we Jesuits have been at home in Hollywood. There is so much to be grateful for and I look forward to counting our blessings together.

Es agridulce tener que anunciar que los Jesuitas terminarán su misión en Hollywood y devolverán la parroquia de Blessed Sacrament al cuidado de la Archidiócesis de Los Ángeles a finales de junio de 2024. Seguirá siendo una parroquia, pero dirigida por la Archidiócesis y no por la Compañía de Jesús.
Es un momento complicado para toda la parroquia. Yo también siento la dificultad, la tristeza y la incertidumbre del momento. He llegado a amar a la gente y las posibilidades aquí en Hollywood y estoy inmensamente orgulloso de lo que estamos logrando juntos. El Espíritu Santo se ha movido poderosamente a través de generaciones de personas y pastores en los últimos 110 años y nosotros somos sólo el último capítulo de esta historia de bendición.
Aunque el cambio me ha sacudido, me siento abrumadoramente alentada por la bondad de Dios que actúa a través de las personas que se reúnen cada fin de semana. Todos ustedes son, y siempre han sido, el corazón de la parroquia; los jesuitas sólo hemos desempeñado el papel de servidores de lo que Dios está haciendo y seguirá haciendo a través de ustedes en Hollywood. Estoy emocionado de ver lo que esta parroquia continuará construyendo sobre esta base segura de comunidad durante los próximos seis meses.
Sí, Blessed Sacrament será algo diferente cuando sea atendido por el clero de la Arquidiócesis. La mejor manera en que pueden honrar el trabajo y legado de los Jesuitas es dándole a nuestro próximo líder todo su apoyo en oración, servicio y confianza.
Así que continuaremos reuniéndonos, adorando y siguiendo a Cristo juntos durante los tiempos de Cuaresma y Pascua, y hasta principios del verano. Y buscaremos maneras de celebrar las décadas que los jesuitas llevamos en casa en Hollywood. Hay tanto por lo que estar agradecidos y espero contar nuestras bendiciones juntos.
