HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAITH 

Gospel - Luke 10:25-37

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"Jesus said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?" He said in reply, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." He replied to him, "You have answered correctly; do this and you will live."

But because he wished to justify himself, he said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Jesus replied, "A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead. A priest happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
Likewise a Levite came to the place, and when he saw him, he passed by on the opposite side.
But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight.
He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them.
Then he lifted him up on his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him.
The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper with the instruction,
'Take care of him. If you spend more than what I have given you, I shall repay you on my way back.' Which of these three, in your opinion, was a neighbor to the robbers' victim?" He answered, "The one who treated him with mercy." Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

  • “How do you read it?”  | We’ve been given the Ten Commandments. The teachings of the Church. The moral compass etched into our hearts. But Jesus turns the question back to the scholar and to us: “How do you read it?” Do we see God’s law as a burden placed upon us by a distant rule-giver? Or do we receive it as a love letter from a Father who longs to keep us free from chains we don’t always realize we’re dragging behind us? How do you read it when you’re tired? When you're tempted? When you fail? What story are you telling yourself about the commandments: that they are gates that keep you out, or paths that lead you home?

  • “The great commandment” | “To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind… and your neighbor as yourself.” Are you practicing this commandment in your everyday life with your words, your choices, your thoughts? If not, what’s holding you back? Where are you justifying yourself, explaining away the call to love because it feels inconvenient or unsafe? Sometimes the hardest neighbor to love is the one closest to us. And sometimes, it’s the person in the mirror.

  • "The one who treated him with mercy." | Is there someone in your life whom you keep passing by emotionally, spiritually, even silently, because your own wounds have made it hard to stop? What part of yourself lies on the side of the road, beaten by shame or fear, waiting for you to notice, to stop, and show compassion? Jesus invites us not just to receive mercy but to become it.

CAMINO DE LA FE EN HOLLYWOOD

Evangelio - Lucas 10, 25-37 

En aquel tiempo, se presentó ante Jesús un doctor de la ley para ponerlo a prueba y le preguntó: "Maestro, ¿qué debo hacer para conseguir la vida eterna?" Jesús le dijo: "¿Qué es lo que está escrito en la ley? ¿Qué lees en ella?" El doctor de la ley contestó: "Amarás al Señor tu Dios, con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con todas tus fuerzas y con todo tu ser, y a tu prójimo como a ti mismo". Jesús le dijo: "Has contestado bien; si haces eso, vivirás".

El doctor de la ley, para justificarse, le preguntó a Jesús: "¿Y quién es mi prójimo?" Jesús le dijo: "Un hombre que bajaba por el camino de Jerusalén a Jericó, cayó en manos de unos ladrones, los cuales lo robaron, lo hirieron y lo dejaron medio muerto. Sucedió que por el mismo camino bajaba un sacerdote, el cual lo vio y pasó de largo. De igual modo, un levita que pasó por ahí, lo vio y siguió adelante. Pero un samaritano que iba de viaje, al verlo, se compadeció de él, se le acercó, ungió sus heridas con aceite y vino y se las vendó; luego lo puso sobre su cabalgadura, lo llevó a un mesón y cuidó de él. Al día siguiente sacó dos denarios, se los dio al dueño del mesón y le dijo: 'Cuida de él y lo que gastes de más, te lo pagaré a mi regreso'.

¿Cuál de estos tres te parece que se portó como prójimo del hombre que fue asaltado por los ladrones?'' El doctor de la ley le respondió: "El que tuvo compasión de él". Entonces Jesús le dijo: "Anda y haz tú lo mismo".


  • ¿Qué lees en ella? | Se nos han dado los Diez Mandamientos, las enseñanzas de la Iglesia y las de Jesús. Una brújula moral grabada en nuestros corazones. Pero Jesús devuelve la pregunta al maestro de la ley… y a nosotros: ¿Cómo lo lees tú?
    ¿Vemos la ley de Dios como una carga impuesta por un legislador distante? ¿O la recibimos como una carta de amor de un Padre que anhela mantenernos libres de cadenas que a veces ni siquiera sabemos que arrastramos? ¿Cómo lo lees cuando estás cansado? ¿Cuando estás siendo tentado? ¿Cuando fallas? ¿Cómo recibes los mandamientos: que son puertas que te dejan afuera, o caminos que te llevan de regreso a casa?

  • “El gran mandamiento” | “Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con todas tus fuerzas y con toda tu mente… y a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.”
    ¿Estás practicando este mandamiento en tu vida cotidiana, con tus palabras, tus decisiones, tus pensamientos? Si no lo estás haciendo, ¿qué te detiene? ¿En qué áreas estás justificándote o excusandote de el llamado al amor porque te parece incómodo o inseguro? A veces, el prójimo más difícil de amar es el que tenemos más cerca.
    Y a veces, es la persona que vemos en el espejo

  • “El que tuvo compasión de él.” |  ¿Hay alguien en tu vida a quien sigues pasando de largo, emocionalmente o espiritualmente, porque tus propias heridas te dificultan detenerte? ¿Qué parte de ti yace al borde del camino, golpeada por la vergüenza o el miedo, esperando que la notes, que te detengas y le muestres compasión? Jesús no solo nos invita a recibir misericordia. Nos invita a convertirnos en ella.
