Proposed Curriculum Policy
The Pastor and the Principal of Blessed Sacrament Parish Elementary School are responsible for providing the curriculum adopted by the Department of Catholic Schools. This basic curriculum prescribed for all elementary schools, beginning in Kindergarten and continuing through eighth grade, includes the following areas:
Religion, Family Life, Science, English, Reading, Literature, Spelling, Handwriting, Mathematics, Health and Safety, Art, Music and Physical Education.
The offering of additional instructional programs and services are dependent on the available resources and needs of each school. In addition to a full curricular program, Blessed Sacrament School also offers a computer program in Grades K-8.
Library
Classes in Grades 2-8 are scheduled for weekly visits to the Library. Library books may be checked out at that time.
Parents Sacramental Program
Parents of students who receive the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist for the first time are required to attend sacramental preparation classes during the year.
Standardized Testing
The Standard Achievement Test (SAT) is administered each fall to students in Grades 1-8. The ACRE Religious Assessment is administered to students in Grades 5-8 in January.
Computer Labs
Blessed Sacrament has two computer lab programs:
1. Writing to Read: Students in Grades K-2 participate in the Writing to Read Computer Program. The students visit the lab daily for one hour. Kindergarten students begin the program in January.
2. Computer Lab: Students in Grades 3-8 attend our networked computer lab weekly. They receive training in typing, essay writing, math and LOGOWRITER.
Physical Education
All students must attend Physical Education classes unless they have a note of excuse signed by the parent and approved by the Principal. P.E. uniforms are to be worn during P.E. class only. Univeforms for P.E. should not be worn at other times.
Pre-Paid Hot Lunch
Lunch is served daily. Applications for the program are available in the school office. Lunch fees are due on the 1st Monday of each month. This fee is paid on a monthly basis. Non-payment will result in a student's non-participation in the program and parents are responsible to provide their child/children lunch.
Title 1 Program
The Title 1 Program provides additional remedial work in reading for students who qualify.
