Stewardship Letter

April 2007

Dear Fellow Parishioners

The first stanza of the Responsorial Psalm for the 4th Sunday of the Easter Season proclaims: “Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands; serve the Lord with gladness.” My experience as Pastor of Blessed Sacrament over the last nine years is that we do indeed serve the Lord with gladness here in Hollywood. There are stressful moments, of course, but at our core, Laity and Jesuits work together joyfully in partnership to make Gospel values come alive in our corner of the world. Let me illustrate with a few examples.

  • Blessed Sacrament School was given accreditation for a six year period by the Western Association of Schools and College. This distinction is the highest that WASC gives. Tell your friends and neighbors that at Blessed Sacrament their children will receive the academic preparation and the value formation that will serve them all through their lives.
  • Blessed Sacrament Religious Education is centered on family education. By means of classes and retreats catechists instruct our young to prepare them to receive the sacraments, and at the same time, they support parents in their efforts to impart our Catholic faith to their children.
  • Blessed Sacrament Social Services faces many challenges in working with the poor and the homeless of our community. This year the challenge is even greater, as many of the homeless that are being forced out of the city center of Los Angeles are migrating to Hollywood. With the charity of Jesus, we do our best to minister to the least fortunate among us.

In our wonderful and joyful Sunday Liturgies we come together to praise our God and to ask for God’s help to meet the challenges of our daily lives. We ask support not only in our individual and family lives, but also we pray for help to carry on the ministry which has been given to us here in Hollywood.

Together as partners in the vineyard of the Lord, we commit ourselves to bring the Good News to God’s people. Together, by sharing our TIME, TALENT, AND TREASURE, we as a community of believers can make God’s word come alive. I ask you to review the material in this pamphlet and prayerfully decide how you can participate with your time, talent and treasure in the ministry of the Blessed Sacrament.

Thank you for the privilege of serving this marvelously diverse and vibrant community.

Gratefully,

Rev. Michael J. Mandala, S.J. , Pastor
